Update: Imam Position Was Filled
The board of Masjid As-Sunnah is excited and honored to announce that Sheikh Abu Usamah At-Thahabi has accepted the Imam position.
Imam Job Description:
Job Title: Imam
Reports to: The Shura Board President
Hired by: The Shura Board Members
Role: To provide Islamic guidance and practices to the Muslim community, to play a crucial role in leading our congregation, promoting Islamic knowledge according to the Quran and the Sunnah as they were understood by the righteous predecessors, the Companions of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace and blessings be upon him), and whosoever follows them in perfection from the Scholars of our beloved religion.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead daily prayers, Friday Jumu’ah prayers, and special religious ceremonies or events in accordance with Islamic teachings.
- Conduct all other prayers as required such as Taraweeh and Eid prayers.
- Provide weekly Islamic classes.
- Develop and implement adult and youth educational classes and extracurricular activities.
- Conduct matrimonial services including marriages and divorce.
- Offer families and youth counselling and guidance as needed.
- Coordinate and support community initiatives, such as charitable work, community events to help those in need.
- Advise the Shura Board of all religious affairs.
- Work with the Shura Board and leads fundraising programs.
- Participate in reviewing and selecting information resources (books and curriculum) pertaining to Islam for the Saturday School and library.
- Maintain regularly scheduled and convenient office hours at Masjid As-Sunnah’s office for members of the community who seek counsel and guidance.
- Perform other duties that may reasonably be required.
- Required Qualifications
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Fluently speaks and writes Arabic and English
- Memorizes and recites Quran with Tajweed
- Holds a recognized Ijazah qualification such as a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies from an accredited or highly recognized Islamic institution
- Has a strong knowledge and understanding of Islamic theology, jurisprudence, and traditions
- Minimum of 5-years experience as an Imam in an established masjid
- Hold the beliefs of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah
Character and Competencies
- Willingness and ability to work as part of a team — patient and receptive
- Leadership
- Communication skills, including oral presentation and writing
- Interpersonal and networking skills
- Moderate level proficiency in computer usage
- Comfortable with camera recording and live streaming on online platform and Masjid website to raise awareness and benefit the Ummah
- Able to connect with the youth and understand their challenges while living in a non-Muslim environment
Yearly Salary Range
$48,000 to $66,000 based on experience and qualifications.
The Imam’s performance review will be conducted annually by the Shura President and a report will be submitted to the Shura Board Members.
